Trek Activity – Fashion Show/Exchange

Wednesday, April 17, at 6:30 we will be having a youth Trek activity! This will be held at the church.

We will be having a trek clothing exchange followed by a fashion show! It should be fun and give everyone a chance to get their trek clothing all figured out see what you have already and what you still need to obtain.

If you already have trek clothing or have access to some, PLEASE COME IN TOUR TREK CLOTHING that evening.

If you do NOT have any trek clothing you can “shop” (borrow) from the clothing exchange we will be having that night!

If you have extra trek clothing that you’d be willing to share/let others borrow please let Brother or Sister Law know AND bring it that night for the clothing exchange. Hope to see you all there!

Trek Clothing

All participants should gather 1 set of pioneer clothing to wear during our trek on Tuesday.  Dressing in period clothing helps participants immerse themselves in the trek experience. It can also foster a sense of unity among the youth and help remove social barriers that may exist. In obtaining or making pioneer clothing, leaders and youth should not spend excessive time or money. Many items can be found in existing wardrobes or at secondhand stores. Youth leaders and previous trek participants would also be great resources for borrowing needed items.

To help protect from sun and insects, participants are encouraged to wear long sleeves, wide-brimmed hats or bonnets, and sunglasses.

Women’s Clothing

  • 1 Skirt (or Dress) – dress or skirt should not be longer than the top of your shoes to prevent tripping on them when walking up hill
  • 1 long-sleeve, button-up blouses (3/4 length sleeves are ok)
  • 1 bonnet or sunhat/straw hat
  • 1 apron, optional. Pockets are useful.
  • 2 pair of socks, wool preferred
  • 1 pair of tennis or hiking shoes. Be sure that your tennis shoes or boots are broken in BEFORE Trek.*
  • Crocs or other water shoes as we may be crossing through water and your shoes will get wet.
  • See Appendix 1 for DIY Skirt and Apron Patterns

Men’s Clothing

  • 1 pair of pants. Khaki, blue, gray, brown are common pioneer colors. Cotton, Corduroy, Twill, and Canvas pants that are loose fitting are good choices.
  • 1 pioneer style long-sleeve, button-up shirts (tip:cut the collar off a collared shirt for the pioneer look), loose fitting for easy movement.
  • 1 Straw or Wide Brimmed Hat
  • 1 pair of suspenders or 1 vest (optional)
  • 2 pair of socks, wool preferred
  • 1 pair of tennis or hiking shoes. Be sure that your tennis shoes or boots are broken in BEFORE Trek.*
